William Witherspoon

William Witherspoon (June 10, 1821 – November 22, 1898) was an American Presbyterian minister and college president.

  • He was born in Williamsburg District, <a href="https://www.wikiwhat.page/kavramlar/South%20Carolina">South Carolina</a>.

  • Witherspoon graduated from <a href="https://www.wikiwhat.page/kavramlar/South%20Carolina%20College">South Carolina College</a> (now the University of South Carolina) in 1841.

  • He then studied at Columbia Theological Seminary.

  • He served as a pastor in various churches in the South.

  • From 1868 to 1882, he served as the President of <a href="https://www.wikiwhat.page/kavramlar/Davidson%20College">Davidson College</a>. During his tenure, the college experienced growth and stability following the difficult years of the Civil War. He helped to rebuild the institution's finances and academic standing.

  • After retiring from Davidson, he continued to be involved in church affairs.
