William Witherspoon (June 10, 1821 – November 22, 1898) was an American Presbyterian minister and college president.
He was born in Williamsburg District, <a href="https://www.wikiwhat.page/kavramlar/South%20Carolina">South Carolina</a>.
Witherspoon graduated from <a href="https://www.wikiwhat.page/kavramlar/South%20Carolina%20College">South Carolina College</a> (now the University of South Carolina) in 1841.
He then studied at Columbia Theological Seminary.
He served as a pastor in various churches in the South.
From 1868 to 1882, he served as the President of <a href="https://www.wikiwhat.page/kavramlar/Davidson%20College">Davidson College</a>. During his tenure, the college experienced growth and stability following the difficult years of the Civil War. He helped to rebuild the institution's finances and academic standing.
After retiring from Davidson, he continued to be involved in church affairs.
